Jail Marriage Services
We provide jail marriage services at most Southern California jails, prisons, courts and detention centers including Pitchess Detention Center (also known as Wayside) in Castaic.

The whole marriage process can take a few days to several weeks to complete, depending on where the inmate is incarcerated and the policy of the facility.

Following is the step by step process:
  • Filling out the forms needed to apply for a marriage license at the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk office (Affidavit of Inability to Appear and Marriage License Application forms).
  • When needed, helping you apply for the marriage authorization with the Sheriff Department, or the Department of Corrections, or the Federal Bureau of Prisons or with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), depending upon where the inmate is incarcerated. Not all facilities require marriage approval request.
  • Sending our notary to the jail facility to have the inmate sign the marriage paperwork.
  • Meeting with you at the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk office to buy the marriage license.

In order to obtain a marriage license from the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk office when there is an inmate involved, a valid acceptable form of identification must be presented to the County Clerk for both the bride and the groom. If the inmate does not have an ID, please contact us to discuss other options. Below is a list of the acceptable IDs:

Passport from any country

Driver licenses/State IDs from any State or any Country

International Driver License

Matricula Consular with birth certificate translated in English

Resident Alien Card (Green Card)

The marriage ceremony is done under the same conditions as during a regular visit. As a visitor to a jail facility, you are subject to all jail visiting rules and regulations.  During the ceremony, most facilities do not allow you to touch, kiss, or exchange rings with your fiancée.  The dress code is the same as during regular visiting hours. The inmate is not allowed to change clothes for the ceremony. Filming and pictures are strictly prohibited.

Notary and marriage fees vary depending on the location of the inmate and the complexity of the situation.  Notary and marriage services can also be provided during a court appearance.

Our notaries are insured, bonded, certified and background screened.  Our Wedding Officiants are experienced Ministers who perform numerous inmate marriages every week, and are familiar with the marriage process.
